PESHAWAR, Jan 6: The government has designated several parts of the NWFP and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) as “principal areas of concern” as far as poppy cultivation is concerned. A high-level meeting held here at the Governor’s House directed law enforcement agencies to use force against those who were not ready to voluntarily destroy their poppy crop.

A handout released on Friday said the “main areas of concern” in this regard were Khyber, Mohmand, Orakzai and Bajaur agencies in Fata and the so-called de facto tribal areas of Peshawar and Charsadda districts, Kala Daca and Kohistan in the NWFP. It was resolved that the campaign for poppy eradication would continue.
