Garros steals limelight

LAHORE, Jan 30: Five goals by Ramiro Garros, which included a hat-trick, helped Samsung Mobiles defeat Union Bank 7—4 1/2 in the Uni Gas polo tournament Wednesday.

In another match Servis Industries with a half-a-goal handicap beat Remounts Orange 6 1/2-6. Malik Atif Yar Tiwana alone scored four goals.

Union Bank enjoyed an advantage of one -and-a-half  goals  on handicap. But  for Samsung, Garros scored back-to-back goals. After converting a 30 yards penalty-hit, Garros crowned a solo effort to score a field goal. Shah Shamyl Alam scored a field goal for bankers and at end of the first chukker, Union Bank led by 2 1/2—2.

Garros again scored back-to-back goals at start of second chukker. After converting a 30 yards penalty-hit, Garros completed his hat-trick. Garros scored his and Samsung fourth goal with a back-hander. Shamyl scored a field goal before the second chukker ended and Samsung led 4—3 1/2.

Garros scored the only goal of third chukker on 30 yards penalty-hit which increased Samsung’s lead to 5—4 1/2.

Dr Iftikhar Ali Simba scored a field goal at start of fourth chukker for Samsung. Shamyl encashed on a combined effort to complete his hat-trick for Union Bank. Taimur Mawaz Khan scored a field goal for Samsung after a long chase.

Remounts Orange led 6—3 1/2 till the conclusion of the fourth chukker. Servis scored all three goals of fourth chukker to claim victory.

Atif drew first blood by scoring a field goal for Servis. Ahmad Khan struck for Orange. Servis led 1 1/2—1 at the end of first chukker.

Mazzini scored a field goal for Orange at start of second chukker. Atif scored his and Servis second field goal. Ahmad struck twice for Orange to give it a lead 4—3 1/2.

Mazzini scored a field goal at beginning of third chukker. Atif scored his third field goal to complete his hat-trick. But Sufi Mir scored Orange’s sixth field goal.

The fourth chukker was dominated by Servis Industries which scored all the three goals to emerge victorious . Faaiz Rahim Khan scored back-t-back field goals. Atif scored his fourth goal which earned Servis the narrow win.
