LAHORE: The Punjab chapter of the Pakistan People’s Party has directed its divisional and district presidents to furnish within seven days a list of aspirants of PPP ticket for the general election to be held in the province within 90 days since the devolution of the provincial assembly on last Saturday.
Acting provincial president Rana Farooq Saeed told a press conference held here on Thursday after a meeting of office-bearers and ticket-holders from Gujranwala, Sargodha and Rawalpindi divisions that the divisional and district bodies had been asked not only to suggest potential candidates but also their respective election strategies within a week.
Responding to a question, he said the PPP would field its candidate for each seat of the Punjab Assembly and that the aspirants of the party ticket were ready to contest the electoral bout.
He claimed that the party was currently in a very good position in the province and could form the next provincial government.
In the outgoing Punjab Assembly, the PPP had seven MPAs out of 371.
Flanked by ex-minister Tanveer Ashraf Kaira, Shehzad Cheema and other, Mr Saeed told a questioner that PPP had only a political alliance with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and not an electoral one therefore the party would contest the next polls from its own platform.
