LAHORE, Jan 5: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Thursday Punjab’s view on big dams reflected nationalism, and it had always negated regionalism and provincialism, hoping that all reservations on water reservoirs would be removed.

He was talking to reporters after speaking to PML Punjab office-bearers at the Muslim League House here, asking for the achievement of target of the party’s membership campaign within a month.

Talking about dams, the chief minister said they would benefit the entire country. The PPP which had bagged the prime minister’s office twice only with the help of Punjab was now instigating people of Sindh against the Kalabagh dam, he alleged.

He said Punjab twice gave its share of water to Sindh, also providing it with the required quantity of wheat. Some political parties were misleading the people for their own interests.

The chief minister said the remodelling of Taunsa barrage would be completed at a cost of Rs10 billion, making it possible to send water to the tail ends of canals. The project would help promote agriculture in southern Punjab.
