KARACHI: With only one day left for Id-ul-Azha, many of the animals brought from the interior of Sind and Punjab remain unsold because of their sky-high prices.

Temporary cattle markets have as usual sprung up at the Federal Area Maidan, Pakistan Chowk and other places, besides Bakra Piri — the old cattle market — and, although they are full of animals the buyers are few.

The rising cost of living appears to be one reason for the paucity of buyers. Since the number of animals available in the City is large and buyers are hedging, the prices are likely to come down. Those coming from outside will be the first to try and sell their animals and get back on time for the Id prayers.

Others who can stay on would do their best to dispose of their animals before the last day of the three-day period when sacrifice is allowed.

An ordinary size of goat with hardly eight to ten seers of meat is available for Rs. 130. The maximum price of goats quoted … was Rs. 2,000. There are sheep and rams with prices ranging between Rs. 90 and Rs. 500.
