Decision on dams soon: governor

Published January 6, 2006

KHAAR (Bajaur Agency), Jan 5: The NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman has said construction of new water reservoirs has become imperative and the government will shortly take suitable decisions in this regard in the best interest of the people. Speaking at a tribal jirga here on Thursday, the governor said that he had brought a message of President Pervez Musharraf to the tribal areas that water reservoirs would be constructed on all feasible sites, in including the Fata.

Earlier, he inaugurated a newly-constructed small dam in Talai here.

Apart from Talai and Raghgan dams, similar projects would also be executed in the Bajaur Agency, he said, adding that the construction of Kalabagh, Bhasha, Munda and Katzarra dams was the need of the hour.

He advised the tribal elders that they should not only support such projects but also convince those who were creating hurdles in this connection.

He also spoke about other relevant issues, including law and order, anti-poppy campaign and use of anti-personnel mines in personal and tribal feuds in the agency.
