GILGIT: The European Union has approved a grant of Rs7.86 billion (31.5 million euros) to support sustainable and climate-resilient projects in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to an official statement.

This grant will be utilised towards building energy projects through implementation partners, said a statement by GB chief secretary’s office.

The project will help alleviate the suffering of the people who are at the forefront, bearing the impact of climate change and global warming.

GB Chief Secretary Mohiyuddin Ahmad Wani expressed joy over the grant and said the EU was supporting the GB government at a time when it is facing problems due to severe climate change.

He vowed to complete the projects on time in collaboration with the implementation partners and not compromise on transparency. The chief secretary said the government would continue its efforts to preserve the environment and improve the education and health infrastructure.
