HARIPUR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali has said that technical education is key to economic development and prosperity of the country and the changing trends the world over require the Pakistani youth to equip themselves with technical education.

“We need to help students learn about technical sciences so they can become a contributing human resource for putting the country on the track of economic development,” he said while speaking to the faculty members and departmental heads of University of Haripur here on Saturday.

He said the country had witnessed remarkable changes in the field of higher education and related research during the last three decades, but for translating the research into action for the country’s prosperity the youth needed to exhibit versatility and demand-driven skills to meet the emerging global challenges.

Mr Ali appreciated the progress indicators of the UoH and its efforts to equip students with modern need-oriented education, and assured of extending maximum support to the varsity.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Shafiqur Rehman briefed the governor about the UoH’s background, existing programs and future initiatives.

He told the governor that UoH had developed both academically and in terms of infrastructure during last 10 years.

He said 7,000 students were enrolled in four faculties, 25 departments and 100 programs for BS, MS and PhD. To make pace with the ever-changing trends globally, the UoH has launched different technical sciences programs, he explained.

Governor Ali also planted a sapling in the varsity lawns.

Earlier, he visited the Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Mang area.

The governor also visited the residence of former PML-N MNA Babar Nawaz Khan.

Senator Pir Sabir Shah, former provincial assembly speaker Habibullah Khan Tareen, tehsil council chairman Samiullah Khan, former provincial minister Raja Faisal Zaman, lawyers, businessmen and supporters of PML-N and JUI-F attended the lunch hosted by the former MNA.
