KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Minorities Affairs Giyanchand Essrani on Monday directed engineering wing of his department to conduct survey of the historical shrine of Udero Lal to assess degree of damage to the structure caused by recent heavy rains.

The minister said that Udero Lal shrine was a symbol of inter-faith harmony as the place was considered equally sacred by both Hindus and Muslims, who performed their rites side by side within the same compound, said a press release.

He said that some domes of the shrine had collapsed under the impact of heavy rains and caretakers had pointed out to leakages in roof in other parts of the shrine. The shrine’s colour had faded and the courtyard’s floor had developed cracks, he added.

He said that he had directed a survey team of the engineering wing of the minorities’ affairs department to reach the shrine by today (Tuesday), complete the survey of the damage and prepare a rehabilitation scheme. The shrine caretakers’ suggestions must be incorporated in the survey report, he said.
