TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 4: Gojra city police on Wednesday registered a case against tehsil nazim Asad Zaman Cheema and his accomplices for allegedly kidnapping UC-12 naib nazim Sarfraz Rahat Masih after protest by the Christian community. Reports said complainant Sarfraz was present at his house on Dec 25 when tehsil nazim’s driver Saeed Ahmad and his three unidentified accomplices kidnapped him in their car (LRZ-304). The accused took him to Jhang and detained him at a room. Next day tehsil nazim Asad Cheema, naib nazim candidate Islam Abid and their three accomplices took the complainant to Chichawatni where he was confined at the outhouse of Shafqat Cheema, a relative of tehsil nazim. Mr Rahat Masih was brought to TMA hall on election day (Dec 28).

ROADS: A sum of Rs70 million is being spent on the widening of Khikha, Nazir Shaheed and Akaalwala roads.

This was said by MNA Farhan Latif while talking to the press here on Wednesday.

He said a new water supply scheme for the town was being completed at a cost of Rs45 million. He said out of 61 rural localities of his constituency, 50 had been electrified while work on 11 was under way.

EDUCATORS: The Punjab government has allowed the district education department to recruit contract teachers on 709 vacancies of educators.

EDO (Education) Rao Mukhtar Tahir said here on Wednesday that teachers would be appointed in February. He said the Punjab government had approved raise in the salaries of various cadres of teachers, including Rs5,000 from Rs4,500 for EST, Rs5,500 from Rs5,000 for SES and Rs6,500 from Rs5,500 for SSE teachers.

REINSTATED: Punjab PPP president Qasim Zia on Wednesday reinstated former district secretary-general Saeed Akhtar.

He had been suspended a month ago by Faisalabad PPP divisional coordinator MPA Raja Riaz Ahmad on charges of violation of party discipline.

Reports said PPP district nazim loser candidate Begum Neelum Jabbar had complained to the party high command that Mr Akhtar had opposed her and supported ruling party candidate Chaudhry Abdul Sattar.

On the other hand, Mr Akhtar told the press that he had given documentary proofs to Qasim Zia against Begum Neelum Jabbar that she had contested election at the behest of former district nazim and PML provincial vice-president, Muhammad Ashfaq, as a result of which he was reinstated.
