RAWALPINDI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will publish the preliminary list of constituencies of union councils (UCs) in the district of Rawalpindi on Saturday (Jan 7).

After the formation of the new district of Murree, work on delimitation started last month and the district administrations of Rawalpindi and Murree submitted the maps of all the union councils to the Election Commission.

District Election Commissioner Roy Sultan Bhatty told Dawn that the commission would display the preliminary list of the delimitation of constituencies on Saturday to invite objections.

He said committees had been formed to hear objections on the delimitation of the union councils.

After completing the process, date for local bodies elections would be announced, he added.

Mr Bhatty said the schedule for the process of delimitation of union councils had been issued.

The ECP had asked the district administration to submit the verified maps of union councils which were submitted, he added.

According to the schedule issued by the ECP, for inviting objections the delimitation committees will publish a preliminary list of constituencies on Jan 7 whereas objections can be filed before the delimitation authorities from Jan 9 to Jan 23 followed by disposal of objections from Jan 9 to Feb 3.

The last date for communication of decisions on the delimitation to the committees is Feb 9.

The final publication of the list of constituencies by the delimitation committee is Feb 12.
