People throng Seaview after lifting of ban on pillion riding

KARACHI: A large number of people, including youngsters, thronged the Seaview beach to celebrate New Year after Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah lifted a ban imposed on pillion riding in the city on Saturday.

The Karachi commissioner had on Friday imposed a two-day pillion-riding ban in the city on the recommendations of police to avoid “hooliganism” on New Year Eve. However, the intervention of the chief minister led to lifting of the ban.

“I hope my youth will respect the decision to end the ban on pillion riding,” the CM said in a statement, adding: “I hope the youths will not exhibit one-wheeling or [carry] arms.”

Youngsters from all over the city reached the Seaview beach on motorcycles and cars to welcome 2023.

The police made proper traffic and security arrangements particularly in district South and areas surrounding the Seaview beach.

There was a strict ban on celebratory firing but, like previous years, people in almost every city locality violated it.
