Pakistan vs New Zealand: PCB announces free entry for Karachiites during second Test

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Wednesday free entry for Karachiites, in all stands except for two VIP enclosures, during the second Test between Pakistan and New Zealand.
The tickets will be available on a first-come-first-served basis, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi told Dawn.com.
It is pertinent to mention that the Javed Miandad and Hanif Mohammad enclosures hold VIP status and their tickets are worth Rs500 per day.
Separately, PCB has also started approaching universities, schools, and other educational institutions to bring students to the stadium. The board added that it will reach out to old age homes and orphanages as well.
The second Test between the hosts and the Kiwis will be played from January 2 to January 6 at the Karachi National Stadium.
Today’s development comes as PCB struggles to attract people to the stadium and stands remained empty during the first Test match between the two teams.
Last week, the board shifted the second Test of the series, which was initially scheduled in Multan, to Karachi due to deteriorating weather conditions in Multan — which have disrupted flight operations and may also potentially result in the loss of playing hours.
“It has been agreed that the second Test and the three ODIs will now be brought forward by a day, meaning the second Test will commence on January 2 with the three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League fixtures to be played on January 9, 11 and 13,” it had said in a statement.
Here is the itinerary of the matches:
- 26-30 December - 1st Test, Karachi
- 2-6 January – 2nd Test, Karachi
- 9 January – 1st ODI, Karachi
- 11 January – 2nd ODI, Karachi
- 13 January – 3rd ODI, Karachi

When people can watch Test Match or T-20 Cricket Match on TV screens then why one should take pain to go all the way to the stadium whether is free or not?
There is a lot of hassle in going to stadium when all nearby roads are blocked, car parking issues and crowd comes out from the stadium causing great hardships for commuters and pedestrians during severe traffic congestion
Pedestrians face a lot of hassle in finding public transport and the drivers ask the fare whatever comes in their minds

These are winter vacation days Sethi sahab. People are fed up of inflation. No one wants to spend a peny on transport and expensive food in the stadiums.

Citizens of Karachi are sick and tired of being jerked around by political parties and their non ownership of affairs yet they all queue up for their votes. The awful condition of roads, deteriorating street crime and lack of basic amenities like gas, water and electricity mean that people have bigger things to worry about than a test match which again causes road closures.

I don't think it is the ticket that is keeping spectators away. It is the temperament and patience of the crowd. You will see pack stadiums in England and Australia during test matches as well.
