TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 30: A local police team claimed to have arrested a gang of carjackers headed by a former jail police official.

District Officer Police Amir Zulfiqar Khan told newsmen on Wednesday that gang chief, former official Muhammad Shah, his wife Sakina and Sipah-i-Muhammad Pakistan (SMP) activist were among the 10-member gang.

He claimed the gang had so far confessed to have snatched 11 cars from Rabwah (Jhang district), Kabirwala (Khanewal district), Burewala (Vehari district), Mureedwala (Faisalabad district), Gojra, Toba Tek Singh, Pirmahal and Jhang. Most of the incidents took place on the deserted roads in Multan and Sahiwal through injecting sedatives to the motorists, he added.

He also claimed to have recovered Rs40,000 in cash, six pistols, registration books, driver’s licences, fake number plates and wrist watches from the gang. Two of the cars were recovered while the others had been sold out in tribal areas of the NWFP, he added.

Mr Khan claimed the police had also recovered a visiting card signed by an army officer.
