Swimming: Nisar sets new record

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2: Nisar Ahmed set a new national mark in the 200m individual medley as the swimming trials for selection of Pakistan team began on Monday.

The Army swimmer clocked an impressive 2:20.02 to create the record leaving behind team-mates Muhammad Mansoor (2:28.37) and Muhammad Tauqeer (2:30.26) at the Pakistan Sports Board pool.

The trials are being held to choose a team for the Commonwealth Games at Melbourne in March and the FINA World Championships that take place at Shanghai in April.

On Tuesday the events to be contested will be 400m individual medley, 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke.
