KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori on Saturday announced that a 72-acre park would be built on the site of Aladdin Park that had been demolished on the orders of the Supreme Court last year.

During a visit to the site along with Administrator Dr Saifur Rahman, he told reporters that the park management did not compensate the affected people whose shops were destroyed on the orders of the apex court.

He said that he would talk to the Association of Builders and Developers so that a solution could be found.

He directed the company carrying out construction work for the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project to remove the massive barrier from the site of the park.

“The construction of a new park has been started in place of Aladdin Park,” he said.

He asked the advertiser companies to immediately remove the diagonally placed signboards in the city on their own; otherwise the government would remove them from the next week.

The administrator said that the park would provide recreational facilities to thousands of citizens. “An urban forest and other recreational facilities will also be provided in the park,” he said.

He said that encroachments would be removed from all parks.
