Sports emphasised for students’ fitness

LOWER DIR: District Development Advisory Committee, Lower Dir, chairman MPA Liaquat Ali has asked the school students to actively participate in sports activities for their overall mental and physical development and fitness.

The lawmaker was addressing a prize distribution function at the Government Centennial Model High School, Timergara, as chief guest here on Saturday.

The Elementary and Secondary Education Department arranged the function on the conclusion of sports competitions among the government and private high and higher secondary schools of the district.

The schools’ heads, teachers, players of the winner and runner-up teams, area elders and officers of the education department attended the event.

District education officer (male) Mohammad Ameen, political activist Kashif Kamal and others also spoke on the occasion.

The students of different schools presented tableaus, speeches, national songs, gymnastic and PT shows and got applause from the audience.

MPA Liaquat Ali said that Lower Dir had a great potential in sports and several players from the district were representing the nation on the provincial and national level.

The lawmaker, DEO and Mr Kamal announced a total of Rs130,000 for the tournament organising committee. They also distributed trophies and shields among the winner and runner-up teams.

The Government High School (GHS), Mian Banda, clinched the winner’s trophies in hockey, gymnastic and PT show, Mayar Jandol Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in cricket, GHSS Ziarat Talash in volleyball, GHSS Saddo in basketball, GHSS Munda in football, Al-Qalam Public School, Khungi, in badminton, GHS Khadagzai in tug of war and GHS Kumbar in the national anthem contest.
