LOWER DIR: Regional Police Officer, Malakand division, Sajjad Khan has said that the people of Dir had fought bravely against terrorism in the past and helped the government restore durable peace here by fully cooperating with the police and security agencies.

Addressing a gathering of police officers, area elders and later presiding over a meeting of the dispute resolution council (DRC) at Balambat police lines here on Wednesday, the RPO lauded the local people and said they had sacrificed their lives for peace and order in the society.

District police officer Ikramullah, SP investigation Mushtaq Ahmed, DSP headquarters Fakhre Alam and other police officers, DRC members, lawyers, traders and chamber of commerce representatives were also in attendance.

Earlier, the RPO supervised a search and strike operation in the hilly area of Maidan during which a hand grenade and a mortar shell were recovered while nine suspects were taken into custody. He also inspected the integrated command and control room in Balambat.

Sajjad Khan said that with the full support of the people, the police had successfully conducted the operations throughout the district and did not allow the peace of the area to deteriorate.

He said that he would make the DRC forum more active in the district for a sustainable solution to the public problems. He said the police authorities would fully support the DRC forum and other established jirgas.
