KARACHI, Dec 31: Indian tennis coach Kawalpreet Singh Saturday believes Pakistan should seek India’s support in its campaign to lift the standard of the game in the country.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) Level-III coach who is presently supervising a nine-day ITF Coaches’ Course which commenced on Dec 26 in Karachi said that Pakistan has enormous potential to grow as the country has an abundance of talent. But he added that Pakistan presently lacked in the area of technical expertise as well as a competitive tournament circuit.

Talking to reporters at Karachi Gymkhana, Kawalpreet an experienced coach who has trained players and conducted courses in various countries of the region, said that India have made a substantial advancement in the field of tennis in recent years and neighbouring nations like Pakistan can gain a lot from India.

He said that India presently has the best network of international professional, junior and ladies tournaments in Asia and Pakistani players can improve a lot by participating in these events.

He pointed out that top Pakistani players Aisamul Haq and national champion Aqeel Khan have been competing in Indian events and other Pakistani players should follow suit.

He said that Aqeel even won the National Championship of India this year, which is a proof of the fact that Pakistani players have the guts and talents to shine at the international level.

Singh said that like the players, Pakistani tennis coaches also have potential but they need to get proper education of the game and should also be aware of the advancements made by tennis at the world level in recent years.

He urged leading Pakistani coaches Rashid Malik, Inamul Haq and Mehboob Khan to come forward and train their fellow coaches by conducting similar courses in all parts of the country.

Singh said that Pakistan should have its own coaches conducting ITF courses if the country wants to lift the standard of its tennis.—PPI
