LAHORE, Dec 31: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Saturday that technical training institutions were being established for juvenile and women prisoners so that they could become useful citizens after their release.

He was talking to a delegation of PML activists and women social workers here at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The delegation was led by Chief Minister’s Task Force Chairperson Majida Zaidi.

Pervaiz Elahi said special attention was being paid to the welfare of juvenile and women prisoners under the jail reforms programme. Provision of all facilities to prisoners was also being ensured.

The chief minister said the government was ensuring provision of proper and balanced diet to prisoners in the province. All jails were being given ambulance service so that prisoners could be timely shifted to hospitals in case of emergency.

He said lady doctors would visit to check women prisoners thrice a week. Children born in jails would be vaccinated against diseases for five years and given full medical cover.

The chief minister said special judges and women judicial magistrates were being posted in jails for speedy trial of prisoners. Medical checkup of women prisoners would be ensured at the time of their arrival and departure.

He said special attention was being given to the provision of sports facilities to juvenile prisoners. They were also being imparted religious education.

Philanthropists, Baitul Maal and Zakat departments were being approached for the release of prisoners who were behind the bars because of their inability to pay fines imposed on them.
