WORLD CUP DEFEAT

WORLD CUP DEFEAT: Out of the eight editions of the T20 World Cup held so far, Pakistan has made it to six semi-finals, but has clinched the trophy just once. Clearly, the team falters just when it matters the most. Relying consistently on ‘match-winners’ is not a sound strategy. It is more about teamwork and about doing the basics right. The administrators should be held accountable for shoddy performances in the recent past.

A PARENTAL ARGUMENT: Parents sacrifice their own dreams to fulfil those of their children. But, unfortunately, when the children grow up and become successful professionals, they tend to forget how they got there in the first place. The trend is to belittle the acts of parents by describing them as ‘nothing but their duty’. That is a fair argument, practically speaking, but what about the duty of the children? Do they only have rights?

EXORBITANT PRICES: While travelling to Karachi from my hometown recently, our bus took a stop for lunch at a roadside restaurant close to Sehwan. The exorbitant prices of food items at the restaurant left me stunned. A single plate of vegetable curry was worth Rs200, which is almost twice the regular price. The restaurants on highways across the country overcharge the customers as there is seemingly no authority in the land to keep a check on them.

ENCROACHMENTS: The Sindh government is eager to launch People’s Bus Service in Hyderabad, which is a decent step, but it would perhaps do well to focus on issues that might not attract as much media attention, but would surely solve basic problems of the common man. Encroachments and traffic moving on the wrong side are two scenes that anyone can see in Hyderabad even with eyes closed; they are so rampant. The government should resolve these issues as well.
