KHYBER: Armed men killed an undertrial prisoner in an honour-related case in Jamrud here on Wednesday, the police said.

Officials said Azmat Ali alias Bhutto was shot dead by two rivals after a court hearing. He died on the spot, and the police managed to arrest both the attackers.

Family sources of the deceased said he had kidnapped a young girl from Shiekhmal Khel locality of Landi Kotal in 2019.

An FIR of the case was registered against him by the girl’s family.

The sources said the deceased was already married and had also tied the knot with the girl.

While the trial was in progress against him in the Jamrud court, elders of both the families had banned entry of both the deceased and the girl to Landi Kotal. The two had since then settled in Pabbi area of Nowshera and the man used to pursue his case from there.

Meanwhile, the Landi Kotal police arrested a teenage scavenger and five of his accomplices for ‘kidnapping’ a minor girl in Sheikhwal locality on Wednesday.

The police said the girl was also rescued.

The arrested scavenger, however, disputed the police charge and insisted during investigations the girl pelted him with stones while he was collecting trash, and he ran after her only to scare her away.
