Couple shot dead on resistance

SAHIWAL, Dec 30: Cash and valuables worth Rs1 million were looted and a couple was shot dead in four different incidents here during the last 24 hours.

Six robbers entered the house of armyman Amjad Ali in Chak 73/5-L and held him and his pregnant wife Fauzia hostage. On resistance, armed intruders shot dead the couple and decamped with cash and ornaments worth Rs140,000.

On Thursday evening, three armed motorcyclists deprived PCO owner Sakhawat Ali and customers Waseem, Omer Khayyam and Nasir Ali of Rs11,250 in cash, a motorcycle and calling cards worth Rs20,000.

In Chak 37/12-L, some gunmen relieved orchard contractor Ghulam Rasool of Rs27,000 in cash and seven buffaloes and their calves valuing Rs0.6 million. The outlaws had held hostage the employees of the contractor.

Three swindlers drove away with a wagon (VRD-7268) after serving some intoxicant to its driver.

CASE: Carrying out court orders, police registered a kidnap case against a tehsil council member and his three accomplices after about three months.

Tauqir Abbas, the son of retired magistrate Malik Saleem Awan, had allegedly been kidnapped by Iqbal Bali and his accomplices. Police had not instituted the case against the accused.
