LAHORE: Chief Minister Parvez Elahi has approved amendments to the rules and regulations for construction of new schools and 48 feet vertical height has been fixed for construction of new schools, which can’t be built along a road that will be less than 30 feet wide.
He was chairing the sixth meeting of the LDA governing body here on Saturday that decided to collect sewerage charges from the private residential schemes according to the new rate. It was declared mandatory to ensure implementation of the rules pertaining to parking and roof gardening in the apartments.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister expressed his resolve to provide all possible resources to improve civic facilities in the schemes of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

He directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) to improve its performance, saying that the agency would have to keep abreast of the latest requirements by shunning its traditional manners for timely resolution to the problems of the citizens.
Mr Elahi vowed to transform Wasa to make it a public service institution in the true sense. He asserted not to make any compromise on provision of facilities to the citizens, adding that provision of clean water and a better sewerage system was a fundamental right of the people. He warned that no negligence would be tolerated in the provision of clean water and installation of sewerage pipelines. He stopped Wasa from collecting sewerage charges from the mosques.
The meeting accorded approval to make amendments to the rules for the legal advisers and consultants in Wasa.
The CM sought settlement of the issue related to the allowance of LDA engineers and approved upgrade of the posts of tube-well operators.
The tube-well operators working in BPS-2 would be given BPS-7 while those working in BPS-5 would be given BPS-8. Approval was accorded to ascertain the criteria for promotion of directors legal, recovery, revenue, finance and assistant director administration along with granting professional and non-practicing allowance to the doctors of the LDA. The amended layout plan of the LDA Avenue-1 was also approved.
The chief minister directed the officers to constitute a settlement committee to settle the disputed matters in the LDA schemes.
