KASUR: The chief executive officer (CEO) of the municipal committee and deputy commissioner on Saturday suspended four officials for allegedly showing disrespect to an unidentified body during burial.

Deputy Commissioner Fiaz Mohal took action after a video went viral on social media on Friday.

Administrator Maham Asif established a body, headed by municipal officer (Finance), to probe the matter and submit a report within a couple of days.

The video clip showed municipal officials bringing a body wrapped in a white cloth to the Khawaja Sahib Graveyard on a tractor-trolley meant for garbage. An official who was standing on the ground dragged the body from the trolley and it fell on the ground.

Later, the official, as seen in the video, dragged the body by the cloth, threw it into a pit and buried it without funeral.

The video caused public wrath, forcing the administration to take action on it.

The officials involved in the incident were Sanitary Inspector Faisal Jamil, Sanitary Supervisor Muhammad Ajmal, Water Carrier Muhammad Arshad and Sanitary Worker Maqbool Masih.

Administrator Maham Asif said there was no moral justification for the incident and the responsible officials would be dealt with an iron hand.

DC Mohal said he was looking into the matter and a criminal case would be lodged against the officials as per the law.
