LAKKI MARWAT: The police on Friday arrested a man after he entered a girls school in Takht Nusrati area of Karak district, opened fire at female teachers and snatched a purse from one of them.

Officials said a Yaqoob Khan Shaheed police station team led by SHO Hakim Khan was patrolling Shah Salim area to check security arrangements in educational institutions when they heard gunshots. They said a traffic warden told the policemen that the firing incident had occurred in a government girls school in Takht Nusrati Bazaar.

They said teachers and students were crying for help when policemen reached there.

The policemen also spotted an armed man and ordered him to surrender, but he opened fire.

The personnel returned the fire, but the suspect escaped.

A schoolteacher, Zuhra Jabeen told the policemen that an unidentified suspect entered the school and snatched a purse from her containing a mobile phone, cash and national identity card after resorting to fire.

The police later arrested the man, identified as Abdullah, in Lawaghar Algada area, and recovered the stolen articles, a pistol and bullets from him.

A case was registered against him.

TRAINING SESSION: The agriculture department arranged a training session for farmers at the model farm services centre in Tajazai area of Lakki Marwat the other day to train them about the soil sampling process under the soil fertility mapping project.

Deputy commissioner Fazle Akbar, who was the chief guest at the concluding session, distributed certificates and cash honoraria among the participants.

He asked farmers to bring their barren lands under cultivation.

Abdul Qayyum, head of district agriculture department, said the department was holding sessions to motivate growers to bring their lands under cultivation and sow oilseeds, pulses and other cash-giving crops.

LONG MARCH: Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Ali Amin Gandapur has claimed the entire nation stands by former prime minister Imran Khan as he has launched the ‘Haqiqi Azadi’ march to ‘free the country of looters’.

Addressing a meeting in Bannu Township on Friday, he said reins of the country had been handed over to a ‘corrupt mafia under a conspiracy’.

“The imported rulers have stolen national wealth and stashed it in foreign countries,” he maintained.

Demanding snap polls, the PTI leader said delaying elections could prove detrimental for the country.
