MUZAFFARGARH: The administration in Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu districts is yet to start a survey for providing compensation to the floods-affected people as crops over thousands of acres and hundreds of houses were swept away by the rushing water.

Pakistan People’s Party MNA and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Malik Ghulam Raza Rabbani Khar had submitted an application to the Dera Ghazi Khan commissioner and the Muzaffargarh deputy commissioner to start survey about loss of crops and houses in his constituency.

Meanwhile, a press release had been issued last month by the south Punjab additional chief secretary, claiming that a survey was under way to work out the damage in the flood-tossed areas and according to the data received so far, 152 union councils of Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh and Layyah districts were ravaged by flood and crops over more than 700,000 acres were damaged.

Dawn learnt that the Muzaffargarh and Layyah district administrations twice set dates for survey during the last two months which is yet to be started.

The affected people have appealed to the chief minister to form special teams to probe the distribution of food items and tents as many of them did not receive relief goods.

Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Samiullah Farooq was not available for comments.

However, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Tanvir Murtaza said the Punjab government still did not ask the Muzaffargarh administration for survey.

He said: “If we receive any instructions about survey then the revenue teams will start it properly.”
