MARDAN: A man was killed and another got injuries here on Sunday in a clash among passengers in a vehicle during discussion on prevailing political situation in the country.

According to police, passengers in a Lower Dir-bound vehicle exchanged harsh words during political discussion that led to the clash.

They said that after a scuffle with the fellow passengers, one of them called his relatives and friends, who rushed to Katlang-Interchange along with arms and stopped the vehicle. A passenger was killed and his brother received bullet injuries when a member of the attacking group fired at them.

Police registered FIR against unidentified persons.

OFFICE-BEARERS: The new provincial chairman and general secretary of Sarhad Petroleum Dealers Association (SPDA) were elected unopposed with the consultation of the members of the association.

The elections were held under the supervision of election commissioner Fazal Ameen Khan, Amjid Khan and secretary scrutiny committee Saleem Khan.

Haji Jan Alam Khan of Tank and Akhtar Nawaz Khan of Rustam Mardan were candidates for the slot of provincial chairman while Ikram Khan Marwat and Sawab Gul Khan of district Sawabi for the office of provincial general secretary.

However, after thorough consultations and negotiations with each other, the candidates reached a consensus and Haji Jan Alam Khan of Tank and Ikram Khan Marwat withdrew their nominations papers in favour of their rivals.

Haji Akhtar Nawaz Khan was elected chairman and Haji Sawab Gul Khan general secretary of the association unopposed.

Later, the newly-elected chairman announced the names of vice-chairmen. As per the announcement, Ikram Khan Marwat was selected vice-chairman for Dera Ismail Khan division, Umar Daraz Khan for Banu division, Haji Shabir Ahmad for Kohat division, Mian Ali Jan Khan for Malakand division, Raja Arshad Mehboob for Hazara division and Arifullah Khan for Peshawar division.

Speaking on the occasion, Haji Akhtar Nawaz Khan said that he along with other office-bearers would try his level best to resolve the problems of petroleum dealers.
