KARACHI, Dec 28: Umar Gul and Tahir Khan destroyed Pakistan Customs’ first innings on the first day of their Patron’s Cricket Trophy Grade-I match at UBL Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Test medium pacer Umar, in a fiery spell, took five wickets for 64 runs in 19 overs and off-spinner Tahir Khan claimed four wickets for 65 runs in 19.2 overs as Customs, put to bat first, collapsed from 161 for four to 199 all out, losing last seven wickets for 38 runs in 13.3 overs.

By draw of stumps in the four-day match, PIA were themselves in trouble at 46 for two wickets. Kamran Sajid (10) and night-watch-man Umar Gul (8) were not out.

Customs made a shaky start by losing three wickets for 31 runs on the board by 14th over. But opener Kashif Siddique and skipper Azhar Shafique stopped the rot by putting on 130 runs for the fourth wicket.

Azhar hammered ten fourss in an entertaining 79 off 114 balls and Kashif’s 58 was laced with six boundaries.

Pre-tea session saw the capitulation of Customs batsmen as three wickets tumbled in nine balls for one run with Umar getting two and Tahir one wicket.
