GUJRANWALA, Dec 28: Over 23 naib nazims of Aroop Town union councils and ARD leaders were deprived of cash, jewellery and mobile phones by highwaymen on the motorway on Wednesday morning.

Reports said the naib nazims had been taken to Abbottabad for recreation, ahead of elections for the slots of district and tehsil naib nazims, by ARD leaders Dr Zaheer Chaudhry and Rao Ehsanullah, the brother of town nazim Rao Ikram Ali Khan.

They were coming back to Gujranwala when their vehicles were intercepted by eight outlaws near the Kala Shah Kaku toll plaza. The interceptors snatched cash, mobile phones and jewellery from them at gunpoint. The bandits also looted other vehicles before fleeing.

LIQUOR: Garjakh police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested five drug traffickers and seized 40 drums of liquor from them. Those arrested are Manzar Ali, Sikandar Ali, Ashraf, Nadia Bibi and Kalsoom Bibi. Main accused Anwar Dogar managed his escape. — Correspondent
