HARIPUR: A fire destroyed records and furniture in the office of the Pak-Austria Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Mang, here the other day.

The police and rescue sources said the fire erupted in a prefabricated room of the office and engulfed the entire premises consisting of six rooms, a prayer area and a kitchen.

The firefighters from Haripur and Khanpur TMAs and Rescue 1122 put up the fire in half an hour.

No damage to public life was reported.

A university official said the university was under construction, while the offices of project coordinator and assistant manager (works) were established in the prefabricated rooms.

He said the prefab building was almost abandoned as all offices had been moved to the new building.

The official said the fire was apparently caused by short circuiting.

He, however, insisted that key records weren’t damaged by the fire as the building was fire-resistant.

He said the institute’s rector ordered an inquiry into the incident, so a team of experts was finding its exact cause with the help of CCTV cameras.

KILLED: A man died from critical injuries after the motorcycle he rode was hit by a car near Shah Maqsood interchange in the Serae Saleh area here the other day.

The police identified the deceased as Mohammad Faizan, a 25-year-old resident of Kholiyan Balal village.

They said the car driver fled.
