SUKKUR: Three people, among them a man and two children, died of gastroenteritis and malaria in Jacobabad on Thursday while patients of gastroenteritis reporting at government health facilities had attained alarming proportions in Badin district.

Sources said that 17-year-old Tharo Khan died of gastroenteritis in Gul Khan Lahar village while three-year-old Shafiq Khoso and five-year-old Shahzaib died of malaria in Thull taluka.

People said that many children, women and elderly were suffering from the diseases but the health department was not taking required measure to bring the situation under control. They demanded the local administration and the health department make the medicines available in hospitals.

In Badin, number of gastroenteritis patients reporting at health facilities has attained alarming proportions and available medicines have fallen short of meeting patients’ needs. The rise in the disease was attributed to consumption of contaminated water, said doctors.
