KARACHI: Two more workers were killed and 50 others were injured in a police-labour clash near Rehri Hills — behind Landhi Industrial area yesterday [Oct 23]. Labour leaders, however, put the figure of dead at seven. Thirty-six persons were injured, 13 of them with bullet wounds. A force of over 250 policemen led by the Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent Police and other senior police officers, in a bid to arrest the wanted labour leaders, yesterday raided the hillocks near Rehri where a large meeting of Landhi-Korangi workers was in progress. The police force in seven trucks was at one time virtually ambushed by over 4,000 workers... . The clash lasted for more than three hours. — Staff reporter

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Lahore,] President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto [Oct 23] made a categorical declaration not to compromise in respect of demarcation of the delineation line in the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir. … He said the demarcation had been made on the basis of principles of line of delineation as agreed to in the Simla Accord. … “It is a matter of principles,” he said, “… whether it is 1,000 square miles or one and a half miles… .”
