ISLAMABAD, Jan 29: The additional district and sessions judge, Safdar Hussain Malik, on Tuesday awarded death sentence to a local businessman for killing a police official.
The convict, Mohammad Mukhtar, who owned a shanty hotel, had shot dead a head constable of the Industrial Area police over a petty dispute in sector I/9 in 1991.
The convict will also have to pay a fine of Rs100,000 which will be paid to the heirs of the deceased.
BAIL GRANTED: The same court ordered the release of a person who was allegedly arrested after a police encounter.
The accused, Amir Akbar, and his two brothers were arrested for allegedly planning a robbery in village Chirah after an ‘encounter’. Raja Rizwan Abbassi, the counsel for the accused, told the court that Amir Akbar was subjected to a brutal torture by ASI Anis Akbar of Sihala police and one arm of the accused had been broken.
The court after listening to the arguments granted bail to the accused.
