AMMAN, Dec 26: The United States offered a ‘political’ post to Saddam Hussein’s half-brother in exchange for testimony against the former president, his Iraqi lawyer said in an interview on Monday in a Jordanian newspaper.

Barzan al Tikriti made the claim when the Iraqi court trying Saddam and seven co-defendants, including his half brother, went into closed session on Thursday, Saddam Hussein’s attorney Khalil al Dulaimi told Al Arab Al Yawm newspaper.

“The Americans offered me a political position in return for testimony against the president (Saddam). I refused and told them it would be impossible to testify against the president,” Mr Dulaimi quoted Mr Barzan as saying.—AFP
