KARACHI: Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori visited the grave of Shaheed-i-Milat Liaquat Ali Khan on the premises of the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to pay his respect on his death anniversary on Sunday.

“The Sindh governor placed a wreath on the grave and offered fateha and prayed for the development and prosperity of the country, including the Sindh province,” said a statement issued from the Governor House.

He also inked his remarks in the book of visitors. Later, talking to media persons, he said it was a token of respect to pay tribute to the country’s first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan, who was assassinated on Oct 16, 1951 in Rawalpindi.

“October 16 is the black day in the history of Pakistan as on this day we lost our first prime minister who sacrificed everything for the creation of Pakistan,” he said.

Meanwhile, adelegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) also visited the grave of Shaheed-i-Milat to pay tributes to the slain leader.

Led by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, the MQM-P delegation placed a wreath on the grave and offered fateha.

A statement issued by the MQM-P said that the delegation also included members of the party’s coordination committee including Kishwar Zehra, Ahmed Saleem Siddiqi and Matiur Rehman.

“Liaquat Ali Khan struggled with Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to get a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent. He wielded effective power and provided a dynamic leadership to Pakistan during the most crucial phase of its history,” the statement added.
