BAJAUR: Gunmen killed a senior Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl activist in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur tribal district on Saturday.

The residents said Maulana Shafiullah, 30, was on way to a nearby street to teach children of local resident when gunmen attacked him in Badan area in the afternoon.

They said the deceased was critically injured and died on the way to hospital. The locals said the victim had no enmity.

“Mr Shafiullah had respect and admiration among the local community members for his positive thoughts and struggle for promotion of education in the area,” said Zakir Ahmed Khan, a resident of Badan area.

The new of the killing spread like wildfire in the region and scores of residents and party workers from different areas of the district reached his house.

Meanwhile, the JUI-F district chapter condemned the killing.

In a statement, JUI- F Bajaur spokesman Maulana Masehur Rahman Haqqani said Mr Shafiullah was an active party activist, saying the party’s local leadership was shocked over the murder. The statement said Shafiullah was the forth party worker to have been killed in targeted attacks in the district.

Meanwhile, a woman died after falling into a well in Salarzai tehsil the other day.

Residents and Rescue 1122 officials said the incident occurred in Toop Mandal village.

Villagers said wife of Dawood Khan was fetching water from the well when she fell into it. They said the locals tried to pull out the woman, but to no avail.

Later, a rescue team reached the spot and pulled out the woman in injured condition.

The 26-year-old woman was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, but she died after some time.
