KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday remanded in police custody a suspect arrested for allegedly throwing acid on his former wife.

The police arrested and booked Farhan for allegedly wounding his former wife by throwing acid on her in Pak Colony on Sept 20.

On Tuesday, the investigating officer produced the suspect before the judicial magistrate (West) to seek his remand for interrogation.

The IO informed the court that according to the victim she had separated from the suspect, who is her former husband, five years ago due to domestic disputes.

The complainant further said that on Sept 20 the suspect threw acid on her face out of anger, which badly burnt right side of her face and right eye, added the IO.

He further said that the complainant had recorded her statement at the burns ward of a government health facility, where she had been admitted for treatment.

The IO said that the suspect was required to be interrogated, therefore, his 14-day physical remand may be granted.

However, the magistrate granted three-day physical remand of the suspect to the police for interrogation.

The IO was told to produce him before the court on the next date along with an investigation report.

A case was registered under relevant sections of the law at the Pak Colony police station on the complaint of the victim.

Two sent to prison in child’s rape, murder case

A judicial magistrate on Tuesday remanded in judicial custody two suspects held for allegedly murdering a minor girl after subjecting her to sexual assault.

Police arrested both the men over their alleged involvement in the rape of a 10-year-old girl and her murder by hanging in a Kashmir Colony neighbourhood.

On Tuesday, the investigating officer produced both the suspects before the judicial magistrate (South) upon expiry of their physical remand in police custody to seek an extension in the remand.

The IO submitted that one of the suspects was a relative of the victim, adding that DNA samples of both the men had been drawn and sent to laboratory for matching with those found from the body of the victim.

He further submitted that the investigation was still incomplete as the report of the DNA profiling was awaited.
