Zaheer’s double sinks PTV

LAHORE, Dec 22: Two goals by Zaheer Abbas propelled Railways to a 3-1 win over PTV in the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Cup Group ‘C’ at Railways Stadium on Thursday.

The national champions in 1969 and 1984, Railways dominated the proceeding from the very outset.

Midfielder Nasir drew first blood for Railways.

He picked the ball from the midfield and after dodging two defenders slammed the ball into the right corner of the goal. The 1-0 lead remained intact for Railways till the first half.

Zaheer, doubled the lead five minutes into second half. He found the net after a defender made a blunder in front of the goal.

PTV, however, managed to reduce the margin 2-1 through striker Akhtar Ali, who scored a field goal in the 85th minute but two minutes later Zaheer fired home his second goal off a corner-kick to complete the scoring.

Meanwhile, the PFF has selected Gen. Ghulam Ahmed Sports Complex, Dera Ismail Khan as venue of the group ‘D’ matches.

Pakistan Air Force will meet Mardan Club, Mardan in the first match on Saturday.

The third team of the group is Dera Eleven, Dera Ismail Khan.

The match commissioner during six-match Group-D will be Abdul Latif Khan while Qamar Iqbal Rizvi will be referee inspector.

Meanwhile, matches in Group-A will commence from Dec 28 when Sindh Government Press (SGP), Mauripur Baloch Club, Karachi, Sui Southern Gas Compnany (SSGC) and Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) will vie for top honours.

Pakistan Police and Baloch Club, Quetta are two teams forming the Group-B.

Dec 24 : PAF v Mardan Club

Dec 26 : Dera XI v PAF

Dec 28 : Mardan Club v Dera XI

Dec 30 : PAF v Mardan Club
