KARACHI: A young woman, whose foster father had been missing for the past many years, committed suicide in Korangi on Sunday, police said.

They said Kanwal Yunus, 20, ended her life by hanging herself inside her home in Zia Colony. The body was shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Korangi SHO Amir Azam said that Kanwal was facing a hard time ever since her uncle who adopted her had gone missing within the remit of the Frere police station a few years ago.

He said that around three to four days ago, she visited a local office of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for her computerised national identity card (CNIC). However, she did not get the document because she had no papers of her foster father required before mentioning him as her father / guardian.

He said that Kanwal’s father asked her to show him as her father in the CNIC, but she insisted to mention her foster father’s name on the identity document. She was upset and on Sunday she committed suicide, he added.

The area SHO got no further details about her “missing” foster father.

Meanwhile, a young man was stabbed to death in Ibrahim Hyderi.

Police said Hamid Sami, 35, was killed in Ilyas Goth because of some personal enmity. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.
