BAHAWALNAGAR: Four people were injured when a speeding bus overturned near Merzeka bridge and fell into Fordwah Canal on Monday.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, a Lahore-bound bus carrying at least 40 passengers, was going on Haveli Lakha-Minchinabad road when its tie-rod broke near Merzeka bridge. As a result, the vehicle overturned and fell into Fordwah Canal.

Because of the accident, a number of passengers, including women and children, fell into the canal that had low water flow.

On knowing about the incident, residents of nearby villages, staff at the McLeod Ganj Rural Health Centre (RHC) and the Rescue 1122 officials jointly rescued all the passengers.

Rescue 1122 officials say that four passengers who suffered injuries were provided first aid and shifted to hospital.

They say the incident occurred due to speeding, adding that the bus driver and cleaner fled the scene immediately after the incident.

McLeod Ganj police impounded the bus and started investigations.
