GUJRAT: The Punjab government has changed the name of the Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology and it will now be called Chaudhary Parvez Elahi Institute of Cardiology.

According to a notification issued by the health department, the chief minister is pleased to rename the institute. A sign board bearing the new name has also been installed in front of the health facility.

The institute was established during the previous stint of Parvez Elahi as Punjab CM back in 2006-07. However, it took over a decade to make the hospital functional in 2019 when Elahi was the PA speaker

Meanwhile, the health department has also notified a six-member board of management of the institute.

The member are: professor retired Dr Numan Naseer, ex medical superintendent of PIC (Lahore) Dr Riaz Chaudhary, Ms Sumaira Elahi, the sister of PML-Q chief Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain who has been nominated against the seat of management expert/retired civil or military officer, ex PML-Q MPA Ms Safia Javed against the seat of distinguished citizen and ex-federal secretary Shahid Hussain Asad against the seat of financial expert.
