KARACHI, Dec 19: At least seven vehicles were set on fire on Monday night in various localities of the city ahead of Tuesday’s strike called by the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM).

The JSQM has given the province-wide strike call to protest against construction of Kalabagh and all other dams. It asked the people to close their businesses and express their opposition to the construction of dams.

According to a press release issued by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, its parliamentary members met at the party’s headquarters and endorsed the MQM’s coordination committee’s decision not to support the construction of Kalabagh dam.

Police and fire brigade officials said a bus was burnt at Mereweather Tower in Kharadar while another bus was set on fire near Radio Pakistan station on M.A. Jinnah Road.

They said one more bus was set on fire on the Burns Road, adding that a contract carrier was burnt near the Gulbai intersection. But the police attributed the incident to the rupturing of the bus’ battery.

Two minibuses were set ablaze in the Malir area, the police and fire brigade officials said. Another bus was set on fire in Landhi.
