KARACHI, Dec 19: The first two-day conference of Nazims of provincial capitals will be held in Quetta in the first week of March in which matters relating to the city district, federal and provincial governments and powers devolved to gross-root level will come under consideration.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting between Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal and Nazim Quetta Mir Maqbool Ahmed Lehrri here on Monday.

On the occasion Nazim Quetta informed Mr Kamal that during the previous local government era, an All-Pakistan Mayors League was founded and its conferences were held in many cities of the country. The then Mayor of Karachi Dr Farooq Sattar, headed the League.

The two nazims agreed to have the first such conference in Quetta in the first week of March.

sewerage lines: Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal has banned laying of sewerage lines without providing outlets for the emission of poisonous gases.

He directed that henceforth no bill relating to any project of sewerage lines will be cleared until provision for emission of poisonous gases is made.

A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Syed Mustafa Kamal. The meeting was attended by officers of Water Board, representatives of companies manufacturing sewerage pipes and sewerage system experts.

In future, he said, system for emission of poisonous gases will be laid along the roadside like the provision of water drainage system and this will be done for the first time in Karachi.

He pointed out that previously only one factory used to supply pipes, but today the activities of water board have increased to an extent where a single company cannot cope with the supply demand and, therefore five more companies have been allowed to supply pipes.—APP
