ABBOTTABAD, Dec 18: Buildings of the Government Girls College and Girls High School No.1, Mansehra, will be demolished immediately and classes will be held in tents to for the sake of people’s safety in the event of another earthquake. The decision was taken by Mansehra District Coordination Officer Shakeel Qadir, MPA Shuja Salam Khan, MPA Mazhar Ali Qasim and the district engineer after inspecting the buildings, which were badly damaged in the October earthquake.

It was decided that temporary arrangements for holding classes should be made on priority as almost 80 per cent buildings of the institutions had been damaged.

The classes are currently being conducted on the lawns.

Meanwhile, District Nazim Sardar Haider Zaman has said that 15 kitchens are being constructed in the tent village in Havellian with the cooperation of the United Nations Children’s Fund.

During a visit to the village, he said food provided by the World Food Programme would be given to the people living in the village, which they will cook in the kitchen.

He said 5,945 earthquake survivors were living in the tent village. He said arrangements were being made for ‘safe shelters’ as life in tents would become very hard after the start of winter rains and snowfall.

He also visited the local primary and middle schools.

He was told that 1,166 students were enrolled in the middle school and 311 in the primary school.
