LARKANA, Dec 17: Hundreds of teachers and parents on Saturday demonstrated and blocked the airport road for two hours at Hatri against closure of primary schools in the Larkana district.
Traffic remained suspended during the protest.
The protesters were led by Ghulam Ali Mangi and Din Mohammed Junejo.
They were raising slogans against Liaquat Ali Daidar, who leads a faction of teachers association.
The protesters alleged that Daidar was responsible for suspension of teaching activities in schools throughout the district.
The TPOs of Larkana and Dokri along with the taluka nazim of Bakrani, Dr Ghulam Mujtaba Samtio, arrived at the scene and talked to the protesters.
The protesters demanded arrest of Liaquat Daidar, who according to them was forcing teachers to remain away from teaching.
The protesters dispersed on assurance of looking into the matter by the officials.
Meanwhile, a group of primary schoolteachers did not turn up to take classes that had been suspending since two weeks as a result of tussle between two groups of primary schoolteachers association.
The protesting group was demanding removal of Ashique Memon, the administrative officer to the Larkana district nazim.
The group alleged that Memon was interfering in teachers’ affairs and had been threatening them during recent elections of the association.
PADDY: Qamber-Shahdadkot district Nazim Nawab Shabbir Ahmed Khan Chandio prohibited sale, entry and transportation of paddy from Balochistan on the borders of the district.
The order would remain in force for seven days.
Meanwhile, the paddy growers under the banner of Save Sindh’s Agriculture continued their protest and demonstrated outside the local press club on Saturday.
The protesters were led by Mohammed Mithal Khoso and Ghulam Mustafa Sangah.
They also observed hunger strike at the Bhutto chowk and demanded from the government to procure paddy varieties of IRRI-6 and IRRI-9 at Rs400 per 40 kg.
PROTEST: A protest was held in Qambar on Saturday against arrest of Sattar Hakro, a leader of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM).
The protesters observed hunger strike and held a demonstration.
They said Hakro was in fact picked from Quetta. They said his body should be handed over to his relatives if he was killed.
