RAWALPINDI: Official sources here this evening [Aug 5] acknowledged that they have received an Indian proposal that commanders of the Armed Forces of the two sides meet on coming Monday [Aug 7] to discuss modalities and programme for withdrawal of Forces along their international borders under the Simla agreement. Pakistan’s reply is being prepared, they said.

… The Indian Government is also learnt to have proposed a discussion between the commanders of the Armed Forces on delineation of actual line of control in Kashmir on December 17 which both sides had agreed to maintain in the Simla accord. — Special representative

[Meanwhile, news agencies report from Nathiagali,] Maulana Mufti Mahmood, Chief Minister of NWFP, today [Aug5] sternly warned against any attempt to bring any part of NWFP under the direct control of the Central government. … Maulana Mufti Mahmood warned those elements who were issuing irresponsible statements over transfer of a part of NWFP to the Centre and asked them to desist from such “intrigues” as the people of NWFP would foil their attempts to disintegrate the province.
