KARACHI, Dec 15: England team skipper, Marcus Trescothick, was gracious in defeat on Thursday declaring that security concerns and injuries in Karachi match were not the factors behind his team’s 165 runs loss against Pakistan in third One-day International at National Stadium.

“Security concerns and injuries are not the excuse for mammoth defeat as Pakistan played really well and outclassed us in all departments”, Trescothick said.

The England captain said that Karachi was a fine place for cricket and there were no security fears in the city as tight arrangements were done for fool proof security.

He said that his team enjoyed playing cricket in Karachi and praised the crowd who described as very supportive and cricket loving.

Trescothick also appreciated the hospitality that his team received in the city.

He said tha although his team trailed by 1-2 in the series, after losing the third ODI, the series was not over yet.

“Two matches are still remaining in the series and we will make hard efforts to clinch the series by winning the remaining ones.

Trescothick made an honest assessment of his side’s one-day form following their 165-run defeat by Pakistan on Thursday.

“We have not improved as much in one-day style cricket as we have done in Test cricket. We need to address this because we are not far off from major tournaments,” he told reporters after England went 2-1 down in the five-match series.

Trescothick said he was not sure why England were not performing consistently in limited-overs cricket.

“I don’t know why it is like this. Perhaps it is our mental side of the game or about our reading off situations. But we have to make sure we have to get over it,” he said.—Agencies
