LAHORE, Dec 15: Sonia Naz, a housewife from Faisalabad who hit the headlines after levelling charges of her rape by police, has moved the Lahore High Court in a writ petition through which she has sought the cancellation of the bail of suspended SP Khalid Abdullah and inspector Jamshed Chishti.
Justice Muhammad Bilal Khan on Thursday took up the petition for the first time and issued notices to the two police officials. The court adjourned further hearing of the petition till a date in the registrar office.
Moved through Advocate Asma Jehangir, the petition contended that the two police officials were not being proceeded against because of their influence.
Sonia’s counsel submitted that the police officials commanded such an influence that they had already been exonerated in various investigations initiated by the department as well as those conducted under the directive of the Supreme Court. She stated that the police had even failed to register a criminal case against Khalid Abdullah and Jamshed Chishti and it was under the orders of the Supreme Court that the Sattukatla police were obliged to register an FIR.— Correspondent
