BRUSSELS, Dec 15: A deal on the European Union’s long term budget on Thursday is vital to the bloc’s economic development as it struggles with the challenges of an ageing population and global competition, a senior EU official said. European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said in a prepared speech on Thursday the EU needed tough structural reforms to cope with these challenges.—Reuters
